our wine expresses the land where it is grown and brings us together to create unforgettable memories

NEHALEM BAY WINERY was founded in 1974 in the historic Mohler Creamery building near the coastal town of Nehalem. The Creamery produced cheese, milk and butter from 1909 to 1959 as part of the Tillamook County Creamery Association, which later became the Oregon Coast’s most popular attraction, The Tillamook Creamery.

Initially, production focused on a variety of fruit wines, with Oregon Blackberry being the first wine bottled and released on April 1, 1974. Within a few years, we began producing traditional white and red wines in local, handmade oak foeders, making us one of the ten oldest wineries in the State of Oregon and the first winery on the Oregon Coast. Two-time Purple Heart recipient and philanthropist Raymond Shackelford quickly established the Winery as a community-inclusive place to enjoy music, food and fun against the stunning backdrop of the Oregon Coast Range.

Before his passing in 2001, legendary author of “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and renowned Merry Prankster Ken Kesey, headlined our annual Day of the Muse, where he performed book and poetry readings and conducted book signings. He once produced his own rendition of the 90’s classic movie “Twister” in our Theatre Au Vin, which still operates as a venue for concerts, weddings and special events.

Depoe Bay Winery, our second location on the central Coast, opened in 1999, and is one of the only tasting rooms in the world where whale sightings occur regularly due to its resident Gray Whale pod. We are one block from the Smallest Harbor in the World, a few doors down from legendary restaurant Gracie’s Sea Hag, and across the street from one of the few spouting horns found outside of the Hawaiian Islands.

We look forward to welcoming you at the Depoe Bay Winery “Wine Cave” or at the tasting room in Nehalem.

COME HAVE FUN WITH US!

Nehalem Bay Winery’s second location in Depoe Bay on the Central Coast enjoys epic sunset views and ample storm watching opportunities in the Winter, as well as whale sightings from the tasting room and a lively show from the Spouting Horn across the street.
